The School of Marxism was established in August 2011, mainly undertaking the teaching of ideological and political theory courses, the discipline construction of Marxist Theory, and the cultivation of graduate students in Marxist Theory. In 2023, it was approved as a Liaoning Provincial Demonstration School of Marxism. The school currently has 44 full-time teachers, including 8 professors, 17 associate professors, 19 with doctoral degrees, and 22 master's supervisors. The faculty includes 2 Liaoning Provincial Ordinary Higher Education Undergraduate Teaching Masters, 1 member of the Liaoning Provincial Ideological and Political Theory Course Teaching Guidance Committee, 1 at the Ten-thousand-level of the Liaoning Hundred, Thousand, and Ten-thousand Talents Project, 4 Liaoning Provincial Middle-aged and Young Backbone Teachers of Ideological and Political Theory Courses, 1 Dalian Scarce Talent, 1 Dalian Local High-level Talent, and 3 Liaoning Provincial Teaching Experts in Ideological and Political Theory Courses.
The school currently has 1 Dalian Think Tank Research Base—Research Center for the Theoretical System of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, 1 Liaoning Provincial Master Teacher Studio—Maritime Power Education Integration into Ideological and Political Course Teaching Research Studio, 1 university-level research team—Socialism with Chinese Characteristics Marine Innovation and Communication Research Team, and 3 second-level discipline professional teams (Basic Principles of Marxism Team, Research on the Sinicization of Marxism Team, and Ideological and Political Education Team). It has 8 off-campus practical bases for ideological and political education. The school possesses 1 national first-class undergraduate course, 5 Liaoning Provincial first-class undergraduate courses, and 7 Liaoning Provincial high-quality demonstration courses in ideological and political theory. In recent years, it has completed over 80 national, provincial, and ministerial-level scientific research projects, including 1 National Social Science Fund project and 4 Ministry of Education Humanities and Social Sciences projects. It has published over 30 books and more than 100 papers. The school has received nearly 20 provincial and municipal scientific research awards, including 1 second prize of the Liaoning Provincial Philosophy and Social Sciences Award·Achievement Award, 1 third prize of the Dalian Municipal Government Social Science Progress Award, 1 third prize of the Dalian Scientific Works Award, and 3 policy advisory suggestions receiving instructions at or above the provincial level.
The school has 1 first-level discipline master's degree program in Marxist Theory, with three second-level disciplines: Basic Principles of Marxism, Research on the Sinicization of Marxism, and Ideological and Political Education. Discipline construction closely revolves around the university's educational characteristics of serving the high-quality development of marine and fisheries industries, adhering to the development path of connotative development, characteristic development, and high-quality development. The Basic Principles of Marxism discipline focuses on three research directions: marine ecological civilization, soft power of marine culture, and the worldview and methodology of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. The Research on the Sinicization of Marxism discipline focuses on three research directions: maritime power strategy, social governance capacity in the process of Chinese-style modernization, and the discourse system of socialism with Chinese characteristics. The Ideological and Political Education discipline focuses on three research directions: marine awareness education for college students, construction of the discourse system and educational affinity of ideological and political education in the new era, and artificial intelligence empowering ideological and political theory course construction.
The school began enrolling master's students in 2017. Currently, there are 48 enrolled students and 73 graduates. In recent years, the school has continuously improved the quality of talent cultivation by constantly optimizing professional course settings, enhancing practical education capabilities, and strictly controlling the quality of graduation theses. Among the graduates, 7 have pursued doctoral degrees, 29 work as ideological and political course teachers in universities, 26 work as university counselors and organizers, and 11 work in Party building and cultural propaganda in Party and government organs, central and local state-owned enterprises, and institutions. Not only have they achieved high-quality employment, but their employment positions are also highly aligned with their majors, and the quality of talent cultivation has been widely recognized by employers.
