Introduction of Otago Polytechnic

Otago Polytechnic(OP)is the first college of technology wholly owned by the government of New Zealand. Established in 1870, it is a first-class public university in New Zealand. OP is committed to international development with a multicultural perspective and currently has a variety of collaborations in the field of education and research with partners from 34 countries around the world. Graduates are also very popular in enterprise recruitment. Focusing on the development of students' practical skills and working closely with enterprise’s, OP stands out from many other higher education institutions and is favored by enterprises and international students.

Many majors in OP are at the forefront of all the higher education institutions in New Zealand, such as engineering, art design, and so on. With its excellent educational quality and social recognition, OP has been given the highest level of educational quality recognition in the external evaluation report of New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA). At the same time, OP's teaching achievements have been recognized by the New Zealand government and was awarded “The New Zealand Prime Minister's Education Award”.

OP has been awarded as one of the first five polytechnics that can implement the “Five-Year Pathway Student Visas” launched by the Department of Immigration. Currently, students who graduate with a bachelor's degree or above can get a three-year open work visa to better match students’ professional skills with the actual needs of enterprises.

OP has three campuses in New Zealand which are located in Dunedin, Central Otago and Auckland. Students from Dalian Ocean University's program will study at the Dunedin campus in the fourth year.

       The“3+1”undergraduate education program for mechanical design and automation jointly held by Dalian Ocean University and Otago Polytechnic in New Zealand was approved by the Ministry of Education of China in February 2016. It has been included in the national college enrollment plan and participated in the national college entrance examination. The teaching plan and tasks of this program shall be jointly developed and assumed by DOU and OP. This  program aims at cultivating high-quality, application-oriented engineering and technical talents with international vision, solid professional foundation and strong practical ability.
