Based on the needs for development of the national modern food industry system, the School of Food Science and Engineering of Dalian Ocean University is committed to cultivating applied talents in food science and engineering technology with distinctive marine characteristics, and promoting the construction of national “blue granary”. Originated from the aquatic product processing major set up in 1952 when the university was founded, the school now has two provincial first-class undergraduate programs in food science and engineering, and food quality and safety, respectively, and four disciplines of food science, aquatic product processing and storage engineering, food quality and safety, and agricultural product processing and storage engineering with nearly 200 undergraduates and approximately 80 postgraduates enrolled each year.
There are 6 scientific research platforms at the provincial level, and 3 provincial practical education centers. With 45 faculty members, the college has won 2 first prizes and one second prize of Liaoning Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, as well as 2 second prizes of Undergraduate Teaching Achievement Award of Liaoning Province. Adhering to the international talent training philosophy of “based in Huanghai and Bohai, connecting Northeast Asia”, the school has established long-term educational exchange and cooperation relationship with more than 10 prestigious maritime-related universities in Russia, South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, and Iceland, and engaged in the support program of China Scholarship Council, “2+2” joint training program, one-year student exchange program, and short-term scientific and technological exchange program to contribute its own efforts for promoting regional cooperation and development in the field of marine food.
