On September 18th, a five-member delegation led by Andrew McSweeney, President of Otago Polytechnic, New Zealand, visited our university. Vice President Liu Wenhe, Assistant President Lu Kun, and heads of the Academic Affairs Office, the International Exchange and Cooperation Office, the Center of Teaching Quality Monitoring and Assessment, the College of Foreign Languages and International Education, and the College of China-New Zealand Collaboration, together with relevant staff, attended the symposium, which was chaired by Liu Wenhe.

Du Ming extended a warm welcome to the Otago Polytechnic delegation. He introduced the university’s overview of international exchange and cooperation and reviewed the experience of the two universities in successfully carrying out Chinese-foreign cooperative education programs over the past decade. He noted that the visit of McSweeney and his delegation demonstrated the high importance Otago Polytechnic attaches to the cooperation between the two sides. The two universities will achieve further in-depth integration in the field of education, optimize the talent cultivation model of Chinese-foreign cooperative education, and jointly build a high-quality teaching faculty. He hoped that, building on their respective disciplinary strengths, the two universities would expand cooperation channels such as joint scientific research and faculty exchanges, and work together to create a model of higher education cooperation between China and New Zealand.

McSweeney expressed gratitude for the warm reception from Dalian Ocean University and fully affirmed the fruitful outcomes achieved by the two universities in Chinese-foreign cooperative education over the past decade. He noted that the New Zealand side would focus on the future development of the cooperation between the two universities, strive to advance program construction, and promote the sustainable development of the cooperative education program.

During the symposium, the two sides had in-depth discussions on topics including program model adjustment, joint course development, practical teaching, and student development, and expected to further consolidate the existing foundation for cooperation so as to take the friendly cooperation between the two universities to a deeper level.

After the meeting, the delegation from Otago Polytechnic visited the campus and the teaching and practical training facilities of the College of China-New Zealand Collaboration, and held the faculty meet-and-greet and the student program information session.
