Dalian Ocean University Holds Symposium on Promoting International Exchange and Cooperation for the Development of Marine and Fisheries Disciplines

On July 1st, Dalian Ocean University held a symposium on promoting international exchange and cooperation for the development of marine and fisheries disciplines in the Library Multifunctional Hall. Irene Salinas, President of the International Society of Developmental and Comparative Immunology (ISDCI) and Professor from the University of New Mexico, USA; Professor Davide Malagoli from the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy; and Assistant Professor Tomas Korytar from the Biology Centre of the Czech Academy of Sciences, along with other experts and scholars from multiple countries, were invited to attend the symposium. President Du Ming attended the symposium and delivered a speech. Leaders of relevant university departments and faculty teams from the College of Marine Technology and Environment also participated in it.

On behalf of the university, Du Ming extended a warm welcome to the visiting experts and scholars, congratulated Irene Salinas on her election as the new President of ISDCI, and introduced the university’s educational overview, research strengths, and achievements in international cooperation. Du Ming noted that as a university in northern China with distinctive marine and fisheries characteristics, the university boasts prominent disciplinary strengths and has established mature cooperation systems with universities and research institutions across multiple countries. He hoped that all experts would fully share their respective research strengths, explore areas for in-depth cooperation, jointly advance the green development of aquaculture, and work together to safeguard global marine biological resources.

During the symposium, relevant functional departments of the university delivered thematic presentations on discipline system development, quality development of academic programs, research achievement cultivation, and journal development. The visiting experts and scholars highly praised our university’s successful hosting of the 2026 Congress of ISDCI and expressed gratitude to the faculty and students for their warm reception. Subsequently, the participating experts held in-depth discussions on topics including the development of marine and fisheries disciplines, scholar exchange visits, and the joint development of international research platforms. They reached a consensus on cooperation in joint talent training and collaborative research efforts in areas such as green aquaculture and marine biological resources conservation.

Before the symposium, the experts and scholars visited the Northern Data Center, Xinghai Bay Laboratory, Marine Biology and Biotechnology Laboratory, and the Northern Mariculture Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs in turn, gaining an in-depth understanding of our university’s teaching and research platform development as well as its research achievements in the marine field.
