On May 8th, Ewon Benedick, Deputy Chief Minister of Sabah State, Malaysia, led a Sabah delegation to pay an exchange visit to our university. Liu Wenhe, Vice President of our university, received the delegation and presided over a symposium in the multifunction hall of the library in our university. Relevant officials from the Dalian Municipal Foreign Affairs Office, leaders of the university’s International Exchange and Cooperation Office, heads of relevant colleges, and other relevant staff attended the symposium.

Liu Wenhe extended a warm welcome to the Sabah delegation and gave a detailed introduction to the university’s educational overview, research features and achievements in international cooperation. He pointed out that this visit was not only a full recognition of the previous exchanges and cooperation between the two sides, but also a strong driving force for deepening pragmatic cooperation in the future. He hoped that both sides would take this exchange as an opportunity to uphold the principles of mutual benefit, win-win cooperation and mutual learning, further advance all-round, all-field and full-industry-chain strategic cooperation, jointly build a long-term and stable university-local government cooperation platform, and work together to boost the development of marine science and education undertakings in China and Malaysia.
Ewon Benedick expressed sincere gratitude to our university for its warm reception. He noted that Sabah is fully advancing its Blue Economic Plan with a focus on sustainable marine economic growth, which is highly aligned with the disciplinary and professional strengths of Dalian Ocean University. He hoped that the two sides would further explore pragmatic cooperation, conduct in-depth collaboration in talent training and joint scientific research in the fields including sustainable aquaculture, marine biotechnology, marine food and ecosystem conservation, and jointly promote the prosperity of the blue economy.

During the visit, the delegation visited the Maritime Power Square, Liaoning Provincial Key Laboratory of Northern Aquatic Germplasm Resources and Genetic Breeding, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Northern Mariculture Key Laboratory — the Modern Aquatic Seed Breeding Center. The delegation gained an in-depth understanding of the construction of disciplinary and scientific research platforms and research achievements in marine-related fields.
